Inhumane Treatment of Migrants Examined in Greece...

Just interesting to note that there may be some concern on this dilemma in Greece...
We best watch this world-wide!

Strasbourg, 07.10.2008 - A delegation of the Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) carried out an ad hoc visit to Greece from 23 to 29 September 2008.

The main objective of the visit was to examine the treatment of persons detained by law enforcement agencies. Particular attention was paid to the situation of irregular migrants detained under Aliens legislation who are held in either police/border guard stations or in special holding facilities under the responsibility of the Ministry of Interior.

In the course of the visit, the delegation held consultations with the Minister of the Interior, Prokopis PAVLOUPOULOS, the Deputy Minister of Interior, responsible for Public Order, Panagiotis CHINOFOTIS, and the Secretary General of the Minister of Justice, Konstantine GLETSOS, as well as with the Chief Prosecutor of the Court of Cassation, Giorgos SANIDAS, and the Commander in Chief of the Hellenic Police Force, Lieutenant-General Vassilios TSIATOURAS. The delegation also met representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
