It has been over a year since President Obama took office on the promise of “Change We Can Believe In.” He promised to get U.S. forces out of Iraq and “finish the fight” in Afghanistan.
But now he has sent 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan, and the total number of troops in both countries is higher than at any time during Bush’s administration. He has sent drone aircraft to bomb Pakistan, regularly killing civilians. And he continues to fund the Israeli occupation of and attacks on Palestine.
And in response to the earthquake in Haiti, the U.S. has sent 20,000 troops to this hemisphere’s first Black Republic, making this look more like an occupation than an aid mission.
Within the U.S., the bailout has increased the profits of the banks while unemployment is still at post-war record highs.
Come to a teach-in on U.S. policy in the Middle East, Central Asia and around the world. There will also be a discussion on what we can do to mobilize people in New York against the war(s).
