Suspended Greensboro Police Officer
A. J. Blake
will hold a Press Conference
Please Do Your Best to Attend this
Very Important Press Meeting:

Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at 2:00 PM
New Light Missionary Baptist Church
1105 Willow Road, Greensboro, NC

Officer Blake, found guilty on two charges of assault in District Court, asserts his absolute innocence; his case is on appeal. He will explain in detail how these charges actually grew from events at a drunken police party and are deeply rooted in prejudices within the Greensboro Police Department (GPD) against Latinos and other people of color.

Officer Blake has already filed two discrimination complaints through the GPD’s Internal Affairs mechanism and is party to an investigation by the U. S. Justice Department on behalf of over 30 GPD officers of color. Officer Blake will share how a certain Greensboro City Council member promised to get the assault charges dropped against him if he withdrew from the Justice Department suit.

Officer Blake will explain further that the charges brought against him are also related to his expressed opposition to the abuse of police power by some members of GPD’s Gang Unit in their interaction with street groups, especially Latinos.
